K-Beauty Trends Global Buyers Should Know: Ingredients, Formats and Claims
Seven K-beauty trends with retail proof, from PDRN and toner pads to hydrogel masks and sun serums, and what each means for format, claims and launch.

K-beauty trends travel far beyond Korea. According to Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), Korean cosmetics exports reached a record of about US$11.4 billion in 2025, ranking Korea second after France, with the United States overtaking China as its top destination. First-half 2026 exports rose a further 27.3% year on year (provisional MFDS figures).
Korean retail shows where demand is heading. In 2025, 116 K-beauty brands passed KRW 10 billion in annual sales at Olive Young, up from 36 in 2020. During Amazon Prime Day 2026, Korean products made up 38% of the US Skincare top 100, according to Adobe data reported by COS'IN Korea.
This guide covers seven Korean skincare trends with retail proof and, for each, the format, hero ingredients, claim limits and launch implications. Each trend reflects what consumers search for and buy, not proof that a product works.
1. PDRN and "Slow Aging" Actives
PDRN, a DNA-derived ingredient also used in clinic treatments, leads the ingredient story. During Olive Young's August–September 2025 sale, searches for PDRN rose 695% and peptides 72%, according to CJ Olive Young. As of October 2026, 13 of the top 100 skincare products in the "Top Orders" ranking on Olive Young's global store had PDRN in their name.
In Korea, PDRN is not a notified active for the anti-wrinkle functional cosmetic claim. In the US, the FDA lists regenerating cells as an example of a drug claim. Position PDRN for hydration, comfort and a smoother-looking texture, and test the finished product before making efficacy claims.
2. Toner Pads and New Textures
Formats sell as well as ingredients. MEDIHEAL became the first brand to pass KRW 200 billion in annual Olive Young sales in 2025, driven by mask packs and toner pads, according to CJ Olive Young.
Searches for mask cleansers, which are applied like a mask, jumped 1,700% during the same 2025 Olive Young sale, and Olive Young credits concept-driven indie brands with pioneering this "pack cleanser" segment. A two-phase cleansing oil that turns to jelly when shaken shows how texture can carry the story. Pads, mists and bi-phase formats change your components and packaging cost.
3. Masks: Hydrogel, Overnight and Peel-Off Collagen
During Amazon Prime Day 2026, a K-beauty collagen mask ranked No. 2 in Amazon's overall beauty and personal care rankings, Beauty Independent reported. Cosmetics Business also named collagen masks a top K-beauty trend, citing an 80% rise over a year in global searches for "collagen mask for face".
Formats range from hydrogel sheets to overnight masks and peel-off wrapping masks. Name collagen as an ingredient, keep firmness wording to what finished-product testing supports, and check the collagen source if you plan a vegan claim. Printed pouches and trays may also carry their own minimum order quantities.
4. Barrier Care and Soothing
When Olive Young brought its K-Beauty Edit into more than 580 Sephora US locations, the products were organized around skin barrier care, hydration, elasticity and soothing. Typical heroes include ceramides, squalane, panthenol and centella.
Keep barrier language cosmetic: moisturizing, comforting, supporting a healthy-looking skin barrier. In Korea, "helps improve itching by restoring skin-barrier function" is a separate functional cosmetic type that requires MFDS review or report and a "not a medicine" disclaimer.
5. Sun Care Beyond the Cream
During Olive Young's early-summer 2026 sale, searches for sun powder rose 284% year on year as shoppers layered serums, sticks, sprays and powders, COS'IN Korea reported.
Sun care is regulated almost everywhere. In Korea, UV protection is a functional cosmetic, reviewed or reported product by product. In the US, sunscreens are over-the-counter drugs that must use permitted active ingredients. In the EU, sunscreens are cosmetics that must use listed UV filters. A filter system allowed in Korea may need reformulation for other markets, and SPF and PA values must be measured on the finished formula. Confirm requirements with a regulatory consultant.
6. Scalp and Body "Skinification"
"Skinification" means caring for the scalp and body the way you care for facial skin. During the 2025 Olive Young sale, searches for scalp ampoules, tonics and serums rose more than 80% year on year, and Euromonitor describes scalp health as a growing segment.
In Korea, "helps relieve hair-loss symptoms" is allowed only for a registered or reported functional cosmetic carrying the "not a medicine" disclaimer. In the US, products promoted as hair growers or for hair-loss prevention are new drugs that need FDA approval. Position scalp products for a comfortable-feeling scalp and healthy-looking hair.
7. Healthy-Aging and Wellness Signals
Olive Young's 2026 trend report includes a "Medical-home loop" theme, which links professional treatments with at-home care. As of October 2026, two serums with NAD in their names were in the top 30 of Amazon US's facial treatments best sellers.
Clinic-to-home positioning needs care. The MFDS's 2025 revision of its cosmetics advertising guideline restricts expressions implying medical-expert recommendation, such as "hospital use", and misleading usage expressions such as "microneedle". Early human studies of NAD+ have used oral precursors, and how these precursors work remains incompletely understood, so avoid longevity, cell or DNA-repair claims.
How to Turn K-Beauty Trends into Products
- Check the evidence. Favor trends with sales proof in more than one market.
- Check the claim family per market. Brightening, anti-wrinkle, SPF, acne and hair-loss claims are regulated and may require testing or registration. In Japan, cosmetics may only use an official list of efficacy statements. A "vegan certified" or "halal-certified" claim requires certification from a recognized body. Rules change, so confirm current requirements with the authority or a regulatory consultant in each market.
- Test with a manageable quantity. Launch one hero SKU with standard packaging and a realistic MOQ.
- Differentiate. Pair the trend ingredient with a distinctive texture, fragrance or format.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Korean skincare so popular globally?
Euromonitor points to advanced technology, stronger global branding and mid-range products that deliver high quality at accessible prices. NielsenIQ data reported by Cosmetics Business shows K-beauty sales up 53% globally in the year to January 2026.
Which K-beauty trends last?
Look for trends that show up in sales data across several retailers and markets, such as barrier care. A search spike on its own is a weaker signal.
Can I launch a trend product quickly?
Starting from a ready formula is the fastest route. At Hansolbio, development generally takes 1–2 weeks (custom formulas may take up to 3 weeks), and production generally takes 6–10 weeks after formula approval, packaging confirmation and deposit. Speed is one reason brands partner with OEM/ODM manufacturers.
Final Thoughts
The K-beauty trends worth building on share two traits: retail proof that shoppers are buying, and a claim you can support in each target market. Start from evidence, and promise only what testing supports.
