The shop is closed but the door is not locked. Inside, the air is vanilla first, Bourbon, dark and boozy, more like the inside of a cabinet than a cake. Then something older: mineral moss, damp stone and green lichen, the smell of the courtyard wall behind the antique dealer's window, where the sun never quite reaches. She runs a finger along a mirror frame and it comes away grey. Beneath both, Ambronova hums, a dry amber warmth that seems to come from the objects themselves rather than the room. A clock she has not wound begins to tick. She has come to sell, not to buy. The dealer is nowhere. On the desk lies a ledger, open at a page with her name on it, written in a hand she does not recognise.
