Enlightenment, they say, arrives without warning, and it smells of pepper.

It is past midnight in the temple garden and the moon is doing something to the gravel. The first breath is black pepper oil: dry, crackling, almost cold, a spice that wakes rather than warms, the scent of a thought arriving before you have words for it. You stop walking. Under the pepper the ground softens. DL Ambre 83, an amber base with the balsamic, powdered warmth of the classic labdanum-vanilla accord, spreads through the composition the way lamplight spreads through paper, golden, slightly resinous, familiar as a coat you have worn for years. Then something newer. Ambronova, a captive amber molecule, sharpens the sweetness into a clean, mineral, almost luminous warmth that stays for hours without ever becoming heavy. The moon moves. You realise you have understood something, but you cannot say what it was, and you find that this is enough.
