First morning in the new apartment, boxes still taped. The opening is citrus, bright and slightly bitter, the zest of something rather than the juice, cutting through the smell of cardboard. The heart is where Nouvelle earns its name: a floral amber, warm and rounded, flowers held in a resinous glow, the light through a window that has not yet got curtains. The dry-down is dry, elegant wood and a trace of soft amber warmth, a chair finally set in the right corner. She hangs one picture and stops. The wall looks different now. She takes the picture down again and tries the other side.
