A dinner party in a flat with too many books. The opening is berries, dark and glossy, tart enough to keep the sweetness honest, with a satin sheen that reads more like fabric than jam. The heart is floral, full and slightly velvety, rose-adjacent without being a rose soliflore, the flowers arranged after the guests have gone. Beneath it, the dry-down turns to smooth, polished wood, soft and close, the surface of the table once the cloth is lifted. She finds the last berry in the bottom of the bowl at midnight and eats it standing at the sink. She does not turn the light on.
