The story

The last thing you remember is the wood smoke; the rest is his.

There is no bright opening here. The scent begins already deep: dry woods with a faint charred edge, as if the room had been lit by candles an hour before you arrived. Amber warms the wood from underneath, dense and slightly sweet, the way heat rises off a stone wall after sunset. Then the musk arrives and everything softens. It is not clean laundry musk; it is closer to skin, to a coat collar, to the moment a conversation drops to a whisper. The dry-down lasts through the night and into the next morning, when you find it on your own wrist and cannot say whose it is.
