The story

The tea was aged in the dark for ten years, and it remembers every one of them.

The name is a translation, and a loose one. Oolong means black dragon, and the darkest, most roasted of the Wuyi rock teas have a skin to them, a surface that catches the light. The opening is an oolong accord built on that idea: roasted and honeyed, with a mineral edge and the faint char of the bamboo baskets over charcoal. It is warm from the first second. In the heart, vetiver essence from Madagascar, rooty and dry and slightly smoky, gives the tea a body and a depth that reads almost like a masculine cologne. Then leather: not new leather but the old, oiled kind, the strap of a bag carried through many seasons. The dry-down is dark, dry, and quietly animalic. He keeps the tin on the top shelf. You have not been offered any yet.
